Are you working on helping your child get ready for Kindergarten? Then one of the best ways is to start using Activity Workbooks for Preschoolers.
Now my background is in child development and I am a full believer in learning through play. However, some skills can be enhanced using activity books and workbooks in a fun way.
Or maybe you need some quiet activities for your 4 or 5-year-old while accomplishing other tasks.
For example, if you are helping older children with homework, having no-mess learning activities for your younger kids is a perfect way to keep them entertained.
Or with the current situation in our world, if you have found yourself teaching and homeschooling, then having things for your preschooler to do will help keep them busy & learning.
There are all kinds of activity books for preschoolers. I highly recommend choosing a mix of them. Find a fun sticker book or wipe-clean book, and even fun mazes and dot-to-dots.
There is so much more than just tracing letters in these books! Your kids will enjoy the variation in worksheets and still be learning at home.

The Best Preschool Workbooks for Kids
My older children attend school outside our home, but I always do a little homeschool preschool curriculum for my younger guys.
Using workbooks as part of your preschooler’s activities is a great way to balance the free-play & set instructional time.
So without further ado, here are a few of our favorite workbooks for preschoolers, plus a couple we are patiently waiting on Amazon to deliver.
TRACING ACTIVITY WORKBOOKS FOR PRESCHOOLERS
If you are beginning the journey of using activity books with your child, I highly recommend you first work on their fine motor skills and pencil control.
Helping develop these hand skills through tracing will guide them into making letters, shapes & numbers down the road.
The first workbook to help with this is the My First Learn to Write Workbook. It’s for kids ages 3 and up and is great for working on pen control, line tracing, and letters.
Next, is this Write-On Wipe-Off Let’s Trace from Highlights. Being able to wipe off these pages will give your child endless handwriting practice time.
Another book for kids ages 3-5 is this Number Tracing Book. It helps with number recognition and learning basic math concepts while also strengthening fine motor muscles.
A simple book option is the Letter Tracing Book for Preschoolers.
PRESCHOOL CUTTING PRACTICE WORKBOOKS
Cutting is a skill kids need to learn since they will do a lot of it in Kindergarten. As a bonus, it’s also a great way to increase fine motor skills which will help them with writing too.
This is a fun preschool book with a high focus on fine motor skills and cutting. It’s the Scissor Skills Preschool Workbook and it’s full of simple drawings and scenarios for kids to cut.
Another preschool cutting book is by Kumon Workbooks – My First Book of Cutting. It’s the same concept of illustrated pages with cutting games or activities.
GENERAL ACTIVITY WORKBOOKS FOR PRESCHOOLERS
A lot of the workbooks for preschoolers cover several skill areas in one big book. For example, they might have letter work, shapes, math & sight words. This gives you a lot of things to work on as a general starting point.
These are the most traditional workbooks. This Big Preschool Workbook by School Zone has over 300 activity pages that cover letters, shapes, math and so much more!
Next in the general workbooks is the Summer Brain Quest: Between Grades Pre-K & K. This book is geared at helping preschoolers get ready for kindergarten next fall.
Next, there is the Highlights Preschool Big Fun Workbook. Yes, it has the hidden picture puzzles that you remember from your childhood!
SUBJECT-SPECIFIC ACTIVITY WORKBOOKS
If you are working with your child and see they need a little more help in one area, you can easily find a book specifically for what they are struggling with.
For example, here is a fun math-based book for kids ages 2 to 4. This Preschool Math Workbook has many cute illustrations along with the math work for kids.
Or maybe it’s their ABCs that they are struggling with learning? This Big Alphabet Workbook would be perfect.
Or if they are ready to learn sight words, then this My Sight Words Workbook: 101 High-Frequency Words is a good place to start.
FUN & UNIQUE PRESCHOOL ACTIVITY BOOKS
Learning numbers and letters is important for your child, but having a little fun is important too.
That’s where fun & unique preschool activity books come in super handy. After working on one of the books above, exploring paint-by-sticker books like the one below can be a reward.
This is a sticker book for older preschoolers, those 5-year-olds and up. It’s the Paint by Sticker Kids: Zoo Animals book. Kids can create art by placing stickers on the designated spots. It’s like a less messy paint-by-number!
Another fun book that’s recommended for preschoolers aged 5+ is How to Draw 101 Animals. It has simple steps to help the youngest learner draw one of the many animals in the book.
There’s also this ABC Sticker Book. Kids will learn their ABCs and work on fine motor skills while peeling and placing the stickers.
One we are currently waiting to arrive is the Logic Puzzles for Clever Kids. This book has over 50 logic puzzles for kids & helps them practice reasoning skills.
